In reply to <a href="https://livingwithscleroderma.com/gee-whiz/#comment-246">Alesa</a>.

Hi Alesa,

Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm sorry to hear that your scleroderma has been acting up, and I certainly hope you are able to get good medical support. I've had swallowing issues too for some time now, and I found it very helpful to get a consult from a good speech therapist to assess the issue and give me some advice for how to manage it. Perhaps this will be of help to you, too.

I also take Evoxac to help with stimulating saliva, which is a problem for me because of Sjogren's Syndrome. Obviously you'll want to check any of this with your rheumatologist. Another thing I've learned is that seltzers with citrus flavoring help to stimulate saliva and make it easier to swallow food.

Best of luck, and thanks again for your encouragement. It means a lot to me that my words are helpful to others dealing with this disease.

I just wanted to tell how refreshing your blog is. I was diagnosed with scleroderma at 22 (now 37). I started with patches of hard skin on the right side of my face and had no changes until recently. I have now developed trouble swallowing and joint pain in my hips and knees. It is very inspiring to read how positive you are and how much you have accomplished. Don't get me wrong, I am generally a very optomistic person. But lately I am just so exhausted by the end of the day. I believe the state of my household chores is suffering the most.

Oh well- I just wanted to say "Thanks" and I look forward to reading more.
