Thanks, Pat. One of the other things I learned was that FDR founded the March of Dimes, which focused on finding a cure for polio and led to Jonas Salk&#039;s discovery of the polio vaccine. FDR was blessed with the financial resources to take seven years to recover, but he certainly gave back, many-fold, to others who were stricken and who still fight this horrible disease.]]></description>

As I was reading it, NPR in the background was telling about the efforts to vaccinate against polio in Pakistan in spite of violent opposition from the Taliban. I couldn&#039;t oppose protecting children from polio, much as I agree with FDR&#039;s statement that facing the worst thing that can happen sends you out on the other side with new strength.]]></description>
